Best way to architect a multi-tenant SaaS?

I’ve researched various architectures for a multi-tenant SaaS application and wondering what the community thinks is the best way to build it.

The best options seem to be:

1. subdomain
2. #with template tag
3. Session variable

Any others? Any to watch out for from a scalability perspective?
