Whoa! 
I didn’t even know about Essence! Looks like it’s very similar to Material UI, minus the fancy animations, and with extra components that MUI hasn’t implemented yet, like chips. And it looks as though you can pass CSS class names into the components? That’s way cool.
But isn’t Chromatic just about designing and testing different states of your components? Seems to me Chromatic should be unopinionated about UI framework.

@ffxsam is spot on. Chromatic is designed to be a sandbox for components which makes it complementary to readymade frameworks like Essence, Bootstrap, Material, etc.
If you’re keen to pair Chromatic with a react-based UI library like Essence checkout the usage instructions.
