Good way to build just for client and connect to server

I have multiple apps / frontends sharing a common serverside. currently i have an api folder and copy the contents around to all my apps before deployment and so on. But the cleaner soolution is to have one backend server running and connect all my frontends to this one backend server.

Is there a way just to build for client and connect to this server from all clients?

I could integrate DDP calls on every server to another meteor server but that seems weird and an extra round trip

So any solution to build it / run it ?
