Hello everyone,
I’ve been using Meteor for developing scientific data analysis applications for a while now, and I must say that I absolutely love it. Meteor’s real-time capabilities, ease of development, and awesome community packages and support really make it a great choice for building such applications.
Today I want to share my appreciation for Meteor and the team behind it. I want to share some of the projects I’ve worked on using Meteor:
-
CytoAnalyst: https://cytoanalyst.com - A single-cell RNA-seq data analysis platform. This is the application that I am currently working on. With the help of Meteor, WebAssembly, and Local File System, I am able to build a scientific data analysis that can run complex statistical analysis on the client side. Visit the documentation at Getting Started | CytoAnalyst to know more about the application.
-
ThYme: Thioester-active EnzYme, ThYme database - A comprehensive database of the Thioester-active enzYmes. This is a database that I built for a collaborator. It contains millions of protein sequences and their annotations.
-
CPA: Consensus Pathway Analysis: https://cpa.tinnguyen-lab.com/ - A web-based application for biological pathway analysis.
-
FAT-PTM: https://fat-ptm.tinnguyen-lab.com/ - A database for examining post-translational modification data in proteins
Many times I worked with our collaborators, which are mostly biologists, to build these apps. Most of the times, they don’t have a lot of experience with programming and do not know how to express their requirements in a technical way. Working with Meteor makes it easy to tailor the application to their needs even when they keep changing their minds.
A side project of mine also use Meteor is https://careerscan.io/ - a job search engine with a simple interface for job seekers to find jobs. When I was looking for a job, I found that LinkedIn always put promoted jobs on top of the search results, sometimes even 80% of the results are promoted jobs. I wanted to build a job search engine that only shows organic results.
Hopefully in the future, more scientific data analysis applications will be built with Meteor.
